Aquarius

I was at a presentation at the Relaxation Centre in Fortitude Valley the other night about how to plan what we want to achieve around a new moon and the discussion was focussed on this month's new moon, which was in Aquarius. There was a lot of detail about the nature of Aquarius which is ruled by the planets Saturn and Uranus.

The discussion was really relevant for me and I realised that it was probably because I have an Ascendent in Aquarius.

We were asked to choose words from two bags which described Aquarius nature. The first bag included words relevant to Saturn and I chose 'Loner Mentality'. The second bag included words relevant to Uranus and I chose 'Humanitarian'. These words seem to contradict each other, but that is because Saturn presents the fears and set-backs we must work through to be able to achieve the gifts that Uranus presents us.

I'm no astrologer, I'm just paraphrasing the presenter here. Anyway, it was interesting to choose these words, because although they seem to be contradictory, they describe me pretty accurately.

Lately, especially since we've moved to Brisbane and started home-schooling, I feel like I really suffer from loner-mentality and that this makes our situation even more isolated, because it is difficult for me to reach out to others.

It doesn't help when getting involved with family here is like putting your fingers in the fire-you're sure to get burnt sooner or later. Nor does it help encountering support groups like the Learning For Life group that we went along to a couple of times late last year. We were absolutely stunned by the exclusionist behaviour of some of its members and were only too glad to have realised the political nature of the dynamics there, sooner rather than later. So much for local Brisbane home-schooling support!

Experiences like these make a woman want to head for the nearest hermit cave and stay put' til everone else just goes away!

However, I can't do that, not with two children relying on me to connect them with the outside world, so I have decided to make a concerted effort to get us out on regular adventures. I went through the Refidex today and made a list of interesting places that we can explore while we're here. Today we checked out a ramp from which we can launch our kayak and this week we'll go and explore some of the Brisbane River.

I'll have to check the paper for tide times, or we'll be paddling backward a fair bit, I bet. It's been many years since I was last in the river (sailing Thorpes in the 16FT Skiff Squadron) so I'm excited to do this with the kids.
